Here’s an overview of the podcast episode:
A couple once changed both their wedding date and venue—just to make sure they could work with us and have us photograph and film their wedding day. And even now, almost 10 years into this business, that still feels surreal.
This couple had been following us on Instagram for years. By the time they reached out, they didn’t need to be convinced or sold on anything. They just wanted to know if we were available. When we weren’t free on their original date, they shifted everything. They even chose a more affordable venue so they could fit us into their budget. It wasn’t something we ever asked them to do. It was something they genuinely wanted. And that kind of trust doesn’t happen by accident.
So many people think the goal is to go viral. But going viral doesn’t build long-term trust, and it definitely doesn’t lead to the kind of relationship where someone reworks their entire wedding just to have you there. If you’re wondering how to build a desirable brand that draws in dream clients before they even book a venue, let’s talk about what actually works—and what’s made the biggest difference in our business.
Trust isn’t something you earn with a single post
We didn’t get here because of one perfectly curated photo or a super trendy reel. This happened over time—through showing up consistently, telling stories that matter, and being the same people online as we are in real life.
When couples reach out already feeling like they know us, it’s because we’ve spent years sharing what we value and how we serve. We’re not just posting highlight reels. We’re letting people into our process, our personalities, and the heart behind why we do what we do.
This doesn’t mean you have to share every detail of your personal life, but it does mean showing up with purpose. Whether that’s through behind-the-scenes content, thoughtful captions, or talking about your approach—every touchpoint is an opportunity to build trust.
Consistency matters more than perfection
When we first started out, I felt a lot of pressure to do it all: post every day, create educational content, keep up with trends, and somehow still edit galleries and show up for our couples. But the truth is, the most consistent and intentional content—not the flashiest—is what created the strongest connection.
For us, that meant focusing on one main platform (Instagram), and using it to speak directly to the people we wanted to serve. We didn’t try to go viral. We just kept showing up—week after week—with content that reflected who we are and what we care about.
Our clients don’t book us because we have the most polished social presence. They book us because they’ve seen the way we work, they know what to expect, and they feel confident that we’ll take care of them.
Content isn’t just about visibility—it’s about building connection
Anyone can post pretty images, but not everyone takes the time to build relationships through their content. Your dream clients want to know what you’re like behind the camera. They want to know what you believe, how you’ll help them feel comfortable, and what kind of energy you bring to a wedding day.
When you share that, you’re not just standing out—you’re helping people feel like they already know you. And that’s what makes the inquiry process so much easier. They don’t need convincing. They’ve already decided. They just want to check your availability.
Inside the episode, I talk about how we use storytelling and messaging to build that kind of connection—and how it leads to clients who are all-in from the very beginning.
Be the same person online as you are in real life
One of the best compliments we get is when couples say, “You’re exactly what we expected—just like how you show up online.” And honestly, that’s what we’re going for.
When your personality and values are aligned across every part of your brand, people don’t feel confused or unsure. They feel confident. They know they can trust you, because everything they’ve seen about you online matches what they experience when they work with you.
If you’re trying to become a booked-out photographer or videographer, this kind of consistency is what leads to genuine referrals, deeper client relationships, and a business that grows through connection instead of burnout.
