As photographers, creatives, and business owners, the new year brings a fresh opportunity to define what success looks like. In this solo episode of Take Your Shot, I share my thoughts on redefining success in a way that aligns with both personal and professional goals. The idea of success changes over time, and it’s important to continuously reflect and refine it to stay true to what matters most.

Redefining Success

We often think of success in terms of numbers—how many clients we book, how much money we make, or how many followers we gain. But success is so much more than that. For me, defining success for 2024 means asking deeper questions like:

  • Am I happy with my work-life balance?
  • Do I feel fulfilled creatively?
  • Am I spending enough time with the people I care about?

Success for me this year is about balance and alignment. It’s about creating a business that supports my personal life, not one that consumes it. I want to feel energized by the work I do, while also having time to rest and pursue passion projects.

Setting Intentional Goals

As I head into the new year, I’m focusing on setting intentional goals that align with my values. Instead of chasing arbitrary numbers or trying to “keep up” with others, I’m making sure that my goals reflect my true priorities. For example, instead of setting a goal to book a certain number of weddings, I’m focusing on booking weddings with clients who share my values and who I truly connect with.

In the episode, I talk about how these goals aren’t just about growing my business, but also about fostering meaningful relationships, taking care of myself, and creating more space for creativity.

What Does Success Mean to You?

One of the key takeaways from this episode is the idea that success looks different for everyone. For some, it may mean hitting certain income targets, while for others, it could mean spending more time with family or having the freedom to travel. The important thing is to define success on your own terms and not get caught up in comparison.

As you set your goals for 2024, I encourage you to take time to reflect on what success means to you. Are your goals aligned with your values? Are you setting yourself up for a year that feels balanced and fulfilling?

The Power of Reflection

Part of defining success is taking time to reflect on the past year. What worked? What didn’t? Where do you want to focus your energy moving forward? Reflection allows us to refine our goals and intentions, ensuring that we’re on the right path.

In the episode, I share how reflecting on 2023 helped me realize that I need to create more boundaries between my work and personal life. This realization is shaping how I define success for 2024—I want more time for rest, creativity, and connection with my loved ones.

Staying True to Your Vision

As you move through the year, it’s easy to get distracted by outside influences. Social media, peers, and industry trends can all pull you away from your original goals. That’s why it’s important to regularly check in with yourself and ask: Am I staying true to my vision?

For me, success in 2024 is about clarity and confidence in my decisions. It’s about staying grounded in what I want, even if it looks different from what others are doing.

Final Thoughts

Defining success for the new year is a deeply personal process. It’s not about following a formula—it’s about creating a life and business that feel aligned with your values. As you step into 2024, take time to reflect, set intentional goals, and define success on your own terms. Remember, success isn’t just about what you achieve—it’s about how you feel while achieving it.
